Haunted South Carolina
In Charleston, South Carolina you’ll find that spirits are just as much a part of the city as the living. Known as “Charleston’s most haunted inn,” Battery Carriage House is reportedly home to several ghosts. The Inn contains at least two spirits, one headless torso and one gentle, lonesome spirit known as the "gentleman ghost". According to the Inn's web site, there are three rooms with frequent reported sightings; Room 3, Room 8 and Room 10.
The Battery was an active artillery installation during the siege of Charleston, and all the houses in this area were damaged and abandoned during the four-year bombardment. It is suggested that the headless ghost is that of a man from the Civil War Era. According to one guest staying in Room 8, he awoke and had the feeling that someone was in the room with him. When he opened his eyes, he saw a broad, bear-chested man hovering in a small space between the bed and the wall, so close that he could reach out and touch the entity. At the moment of contact, the ghost let out a horrid growl then moaned and muttered some words that let the guest know his displeasure.
It is said that the "gentleman ghost" has a thing for the ladies and he is well-known for lying down next to women who are sleeping in their bed. Reports indicate that if the woman screams, he will carefully get up and leave her be as he disappears through the nearest wall.
